Diamond tool applications
Natural diamond cutters are mainly used in the processing of precious copper and copper alloys and precious non-ferrous metals such as gold, silver and rhodium, as well as the ultra-precision mirror processing of special parts, such as video camera disks, optical plane mirrors, polygon mirrors and hyperboloid mirrors. But its crystal anisotropy, the tool is expensive. The performance of PCD depends on the content of diamond grains and cobalt, and the tool life is 10 to 500 times that of cemented carbide (WC matrix) tools. It is mainly used for turning various non-ferrous metals such as aluminum, copper, magnesium and their alloys, cemented carbide and highly wear-resistant fiber-plasticized materials, metal matrix composite materials, wood and other non-metallic materials. The cutting speed, feed speed and cutting depth during the cutting process depends on the workpiece material and hardness.
The performance and application of synthetic polycrystalline diamond composite sheet (PDC) are close to PCD tools, mainly used in non-ferrous metals, cemented carbide, ceramics, non-metallic materials (plastics, hard rubber, carbon rods, wood, cement products, etc.), composite materials Waiting for cutting, gradually replacing cemented carbide tools. Because diamond particles have some residual bonding metal and graphite, the bonding metal in the coalescence state or in the form of veins will reduce the wear resistance and life of the tool. In addition, there is a residual amount of solvent metal, which is in direct contact with the diamond surface. Reduce (PDC) oxidation resistance and tool heat resistance temperature, so the cutting performance of the tool is not stable enough.
The preparation process of diamond thick film cutters is complicated because diamond has a high interface energy between low melting point metals and their alloys. Diamond is difficult to be infiltrated by ordinary low-melting solder alloys.
The weldability is extremely poor, making it difficult to make tools with complex geometry, so TDF welding tools cannot be used in high-speed milling. Diamond-coated tools can be used for high-speed machining, because in addition to the excellent mechanical properties of diamond-coated tools, the diamond coating process can prepare milling cutters of any complex shape, which are used for high-speed machining such as aluminum-titanium alloy aviation materials and Metal materials such as graphite electrodes.
